Oronto Douglas’ Sister Regains Freedom


Mrs. Augusta Dauglas-Ayam, the sister of the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Research, Documentation and Strategy, Oronto Dauglas who was abducted some days ago has regained her freedom.
Mrs Ayam was kidnapped in her shop in Ogbia town, Bayelsa State by gun totting men who later demanded a ransom of N500 million.
The family’s claim that she was released without the payment of any ransom could not be verified as of the time of filing this report. It was contained in a statement released by the family that “after nine traumatic days in the hands of
abductors, our beloved sister Augusta Douglas-Ayam was this morning
unconditionally released to the family. We thank God for his protection and
intervention. We also thank Nigerians who, through prayers and words of encouragement, supported us throughout this ordeal. Our sister is currently in a hospital receiving treatment. We will not be making any further statements on this issue and wish to put it behind us”.
