There was confusion around the Port Harcourt International Airport on Tuesday as supporters of the Governor of Rivers State, Chuibuike Rotimi Amaechi were prevented from accessing the airport to welcome chieftains of the All Progressives Congress who were billed to visit the state.
The supporters who had gathered in their hundreds were barred by security personnel at the airport thus causing a traffic jam which has affected the free flow of traffic to and from the airport.
Street Journal gathered that Governor Amaechi’s convoy got stuck in the jam outside the airport and he had to alight from the car and enter the airport on foot after ensuring that the gates were opened for his supporters.
The spokesman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Yakubu Datti who spoke about the incident disclosed that the gridlock was caused by Governor Amaechi, who invaded the airport with his supporters and thugs. He said “as I’m talking to you now they have invaded the tarmac, and an Arik flight just arrived Port Harcourt now.”
Ashiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the APC, National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande and Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) were received by the Governor.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary could not be reached for comments as of the time of filing this report.
