. Promises National Honours
Each member of the U-17 team that did the country proud in the United Arab Emirates, on Sunday became N 2 million richer while the coach, Manu Garba got N 3 million. The assistant coaches were rewarded with N 2.5 million and the team’s Doctors went home with N 500,000 each.
The President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan announced the cash rewards for the players and coaching crew of the victorious team while hosting them in Abuja.
The President also promised that during the next round of bestowing national honours, the Golden Eaglets team would be included. He urged states to host the team.
President Jonathan also hinted that members of the Board of the Nigeria Football Federation would also be given national honours. 2013 has been a particularly good year for Nigeria in the soccer arena. Earlier in the year, the senior national soccer team won the African Cup of Nations.
