The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday arrested the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon Gambo Sallau and seven other lawmakers.
The arrest of the legislators was confirmed by the Spokesman of the Commission, Wison Uwujaren who disclosed that the Commission invited the lawmakers for questioning after it received a petition against them. He said “they were invited for questioning in respect of a petition against them for abuse of supplementary processes.”
The spokesman also pointed out that the invitation was honoured at the Kano office of the EFCC but since the petition against them was received in Abuja, the lawmakers were being moved to Abuja.
Checks revealed that the arrest of the lawmakers might have affected the proposed presentation of the 2014 budget to the Kano State House of Assembly.
