Not ;less than 7 passengers met their untimely deaths as the bus they were traveling in exploded as a result of an explosion from an Improvised Explosive Device planted on the Gwoza-Madagali road on Thursday. Apart from the seven that died on the spot, three others were seriously wounded.
The road is an inter-state road that links Borno and Adamawa states.
The bomb was reportedly placed somewhere in Kutura village along the Gwoza- Madagali federal highway.
A source who pleaded anonymity gave the names of some of the deceased as; Suleh Adamu, aged 43, Zakariya Shuaibu 40, Bako Suleiman 35, Lami Baba 40 and Mohammed Maikanwa a 50 year-old man from Damagaram town of Niger
While confirming the incident on phone, CP Lawal Tanko, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State said “we received an information from the Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Gwoza Local government area that a bus conveying passengers stumbled on a Bomb planted by the side of the federal highway in Kutura village killing 7 passengers on the spot.”
Officers of the anti-bomb squad blocked parts of the road and combed the area for explosives.
Days before the bomb planting, scores of worshippers were slaughtered in a church in Adamawa while a village was sacked in Borno. The terrorist sect might have adopted the new strategy of blowing up passenger vehicles in addition to their direct assault system.
