At least 22 people were killed in Waga Chakawa, a village in Adamawa State on Sunday. The village shares a border with Borno State. Witnesses disclosed that the attackers, suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect attacked a Catholic church in the morning setting of explosives and firing into the congregation. Many houses were also burnt in the siege that lasted for about 4 hours
The spokesman of the Catholic Diocese of Yola, Reverend Father Raymond Danbuoye has confirmed that 22 people were killed and have been buried on Monday.
Reports also stated that another 15 people were killed in Borno State by the same sect whose members attacked Kawuri town in Konduga Local Government Area. The attack was timed to coincide with the town’s weekly market. Several explosive devices had been placed by the terrorists after which shots were fired at people who fled after the explosions.
Alhaji Lawan Tanko, the Borno State commissioner of Police confirmed the attack, though he did not give casualty figures.
The attack came barely a week after the appointment of a new Chief of Defence staff.
