The Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointment of four Service Chiefs nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan. The confirmation of the military officers came on the heels of the consideration of the report of the Senate Joint Committee on Defence/Army, Navy and Air Force that screened the nominees.
The committee gave the nominees a clean bill of health thereby making the confirmation an easy process.
Senator George Sekibo, the Chairman of the Committee who presented the report that recommended the service chiefs said “having assessed the four nominees thoroughly and found them fit for the leadership of their respective services, the Joint Committee wishes to recommend that the Senate do confirm and approve their appointment and decoration by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Service Chiefs.”
Those service chiefs as confirmed by the Senate are: Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshall Alex Badeh; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Kenneth Minimah; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Adesola Amosu.
While encouraging the new service chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by Nigerians, the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, urged them to put their wealth of experience into use in the discharge of their duties.
