It is not yet uhuru for former Secretary to the Edo State Government, Dr. Simon Imuekemhe as an Edo High Court on Monday denied him bail and remanded him in prison over allegations of misappropriating N 78 million naira while in office.
The former Edo State Secretary and three SUBEB officials were arraigned in court by the EFCC on an eight count charge of corrupt practices and other related offences.
At the court on Monday, the counsel to the defendant asked the court to uphold the bail granted by the EFCC to the defendant, but the prosecuting counsel reminded the court that if it decides to grant bail, it would need to stipulate the conditions of the bail as all previous arrangements had elapsed.
The judge, Rasaq Isenalume after hearing both counsels ordered that the accused be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to March 14, 2014.
The friends and family members of the accused persons who stormed the court expecting their bail left were disappointed as they left the court in dejection.
The case against the four accused is a celebrated case in Edo State considering the status and political connections of the former SSG.
