David Moyes, the Manchester United Manager has been relieved of his position, just 10 months after resuming duties as successor to Sir Alex Ferguson.
There had been reports that the Manager might be sacked before the end of the season, though the club’s management had refused to make comments.
Moyes was specifically picked by Sir Alex Ferguson as his successor after having managed the club for 26 years. Moyes had a six-year contract with the club.
While announcing Moyes’ sack in a statement, the club said it would be necessary to “place on record its thanks for the hard work, honesty and integrity he brought to the role”.
The club presently occupies the seventh position and with four games left, it will record its lowest points tally ever.
United lost six games at their home ground, Old Trafford under Moyes as Manager.
Last month, some supporters had chartered a plane to fly overhead with a banner that bore the words “Wrong One-Moyes Out”.
For the first time in 19 years, the club will also miss out of the UEFA Champions League.
