Two A-Class traditional rulers, the Emir of Uba, Ismaila Mamza and the Emir of Gwoza, Idris Timta were on Friday morning abducted by men suspected to be members of the Boko Haram terrorist organisation. The were seized by heavily armed men in Shaffa while they were travelling to Gombe State to attend the funeral of Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, the Emir of Gombe who passed on a few days ago.
The traditional rulers’ who were travelling in a convoy of vehicles were waylaid. Findings revealed that a third traditional ruler, the Emir of Askira’s convoy too was attacked.
Street Journal gathered that the vehicles were repeatedly shot at apparently to demobilize them while the driver that conveyed the two Emirs who incidentally were in the same car tried to escape. The two monarchs opened the door and ran when it was obvious the car could no longer move.
Palace sources in the Uba Emirate confirmed that they have been able to reach the Emir on phone and he confirmed that he is well. The Emir of Gwoza however is believed to have died apparently from exhaustion while trying to escape.
The Emirs of Gwoza and Uba were elevated to first class rulers earlier in the year.
