Kurudu, a community on the outskirts of Abuja was thrown into confusion on Thursday morning following a loud explosion as Nigeria celebrated Democracy Day.
Residents scampered for safety while soldiers at an Army Estate in the area locked the main gates just in case the estate happens to be the target of an attack.
It was however found out that blasts came from a quarry in the area.
The blasts were as a result of the blasting of a rock that stood in the way of the construction of a road that would link Karishi on the outskirts of the FCT to Apo.
Brig Gen Oluleye confirmed that the explosion was a “controlled blast.”
As of the time of filing this report, there was heavy military presence in the area while aerial surveillance was being carried out by helicopters around the Kurudu axis through Orozo.
Residents in and around the FCT have been apprehensive since two blasts rocked a park in Nyanya within two weeks of each other.
