Bomb Explosion Hits Popular Shopping Mall in Abuja

A loud explosion on Wednesday afternoon rocked the popular Emab Plaza in Wuse II area of Abuja. The explosion occurred weeks after some of the markets in the Federal Capital were locked down over security threats.
Though the official casualty figure could not be readily ascertained as of the time of filing the report, 4 cars were seen burnt at the gate of the plaza while witnesses disclosed that not less than 30 bodies were taken to the General Hospital in Maitama with three of them completely dismembered.
The ever busy plaza is located in a commercial area with a number of shopping plazas around it.
The thick black smoke billowing from the scene could be seen from as far as Wuse Zone 3.
Shortly after the explosion, the Police Force PRO, ACP Frank Mba was at the scene and he promised to brief the press soon. The area was thereafter cordoned off.
