Amosun Shuts Olabisi Onabanjo University

The government of Ogun State has issued a directive to the Governing Council of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, to close down the institution with immediate effect.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, it was pointed out that the decision to shut the university was taken in the overall interest of peace and order.
It was also contained in the statement that students of the institution have rejected all entreaties and concessions made by the government on their various demands concerning the tuition fee which was reduced recently. The government also said the students have continued to issue threats.
The government called on those who have children or wards in OOU to call them to order as it would no longer tolerate any act that will disturb the peace of the state.
It will be recalled that students of the institution embarked on a protest march to the governor’s office and destroyed some properties in the course of the protest.
