. As PDP Wins Niger East Election
The Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the forthcoming governorship election which has to be cnducted to fill the vacancy created by the impeachment of Admiral Murtala Nyako and the resignation of his deputy.
Fintiri won the party’s primary election held on Saturday.
In a related development, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared PDPs Shem Zagbayi winner of the Niger East Senatorial bye-election.
While announcing the result on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Prof Morenikeji said “I, Prof. Olakonmi Morenikeji hereby certify that I was the returning officer for Niger East Senatorial District by-election held on the 6th day of September 2014.
“That the election was contested.
“That the candidates received the following votes: Mr. David Umaru, APC: 87,405; Isa Bello of APGA, 2,185 votes; Dr. Shem Nuhu Zagbayi of the PDP scored 92,056 votes; and Abdulahi Diko of the SDP scored 419 votes.
“That Dr Shem Zagbayi of the PDP, having certified the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.
“Signed by myself the returning officer.”
