AFCON: Eagles Fall 2-3 to Congo’s Red Devils

Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Saturday recorded the team’s first loss at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
The Eagles took on the Red Devils of Congo in a 2015 Nations Cup qualifier. Efe Ambrose had handed the Congolese the first lead and at the end of the first half, scores stood at 2-1 in favour of the visitors.
The second half resumed with the Congolese dictating the pace of the game. A penalty kick, well converted by the Congolese in the early minutes of the second half took the game beyond the reach of the Eagles.
An 86th minute goal from Gbolahan Salami rekindled hopes but all efforts to get an equalizer were contained by the Claude Le Roy tutored side’s resolute defence.
The Eagles next match is on Wednesday against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
