US Confirms Al-Shabab Leader’s Death in Air Strike

The Pentagon has stated that the leader of the Somali Islamist group, Al-Shabab, Ahmed Abdi Godane was killed in an air strike earlier in the week.
The US carried out air strikes which targeted a convoy in which Gondane was traveling in on Monday night.
The Pentagon believes “removing Gondane from the battlefield is a major symbolic and operational loss to al-Shabab”.
With a $ 7 million price tag on his head, Gondane was one of the most wanted men on the US State Department’s list.
Al-Shabab has been responsible for attacks aimed at overthrowing the Somali government.
The Islamist terror group has however been silent on the state of health of its leader since the September 1 air strike.
