The search for the Vice president for All Progressive Congress APC Presidential candidate in the 2015 general election, Muhammadu Buhari has taken another dimension as the party is beckoning on Pastor Tunde Bakare for the plum post, The Street Journal can authoritatively reveal.
It was gathered that the party leadership at its crucial meeting Sunday in Lagos has a herculean task making a choice from amongst the list of possible candidates at its disposal for the post.
The presidential candidate of the party, Gen. Buhari rtd. had given the APC leader, Bola Tinubu the prerogative of coming up with a name for party NWC ratification in appreciation of the 100 per cent success recorded by the Southwest in the support for Buhari’s emergence at the primary.
It was however, gathered that Tinubu had included his name on the shortlist which included governors of Edo, Rivers State, Adam Oshiohmole and Rotimi Amaechi and a Redeemed Church pastor and former Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Lagos State, Prof. Yemi Osibajo.
It was learnt that a member of the APC NWC, however, suggested the choice of Tunde Bakare when it became crystal clear that a Muslim/Muslim ticket was about to emerge for the party with Tinubu clearly appearing to clinch the ticket.
At this juncture, it was gathered that it was argued that the party had passed a resolution during one of its meetings banning a Muslim/Muslim ticket for the party given the current mood of the nation occasioned by the onslaught of the Boko Haram insurgency.
To satisfy the yearning of the Christians who allegedly claim Buhari is a fundamentalist, it was gathered that the name of the nonconformist pastor was mentioned since he had partnered Buhari in the 2011 presidential election as his Vice. It was gathered that names of both Oshiomhole and Amaechi were stepped down in order to ensure the block vote from the South West that appears to be APC catchment area at present.
It was however gathered that the Latter Rain Church lead Pastor, Bakare had traveled out of the country shortly after he got wind of the move by the APC leaders to drag him into the race. A source close to the man of God told the Street Journal that Bakare was not too comfortable with his association with some leaders of the party particularly those that came from the ACN. It was gathered that the pastor bolted out of the country in order to avoid the pressure by the party faithful to join the race.
It was however, learnt that apart from the ACN leaders, the association of the party with former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, is not making Bakare confortable either. It was gathered that Bakare and Obasanjo are sworn enemies, a situation which a source close to Bakare said his pastor had described as a light and darkness romance.
