President Muhammadu Buhari is to chair the meeting of the Peace and Security Committee of the 25th African Union (AU) Summit which holds In Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday.

The theme of this year’s Summit is: “Year of Women Empowerment and Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2063.’’

A statement issued by Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, says Buhari who departs Nigeria for South Africa today will attend the meeting immediately on arrival.

It says the trip would be Buhari’s first continental assignment since taking office on May 29, having visited the sub-region countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission shortly after his swearing-in.

Buhari had travelled to seek sub-regional cooperation to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency ravaging the North-Eastern part of the country.
