Suspected Fulani Militia Storm Nasarawa, Kill Community Leader’s 2 Sons

A group of suspected Fulani militia numbering over 70 have stormed Kofar Gwari in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, killing two sons of the traditional ruler of the community.

The Street Journal gathered that the marauders arrived in the community on Sunday at a time members of the vigilante groups in the area were holding a meeting to address the recent spate of killings and kidnapping in their area.

Our correspondent learned that mid-way in the vigilante group’s meeting, the militia arrived from nowhere and attacked them, shooting their guns sporadically and in the process, killed the victims, Yawel Oshawu and Idi Ibrahim and wounded scores of others.

Sources said the militia had in an earlier attack, which lasted four hours, left many homes destroyed and robbed many residents of their property, culminating in many residents deserting the community for fear of further attacks.

Distressed residents said though it was harvest time, they could not risk going to their farms to harvest their crops for fear of being attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen, who were already grazing on their farmlands.

Spokesman of the Nasarawa State Police Command, Ismaila Numan, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), confirmed the incident to newsmen in Lafia, the state capital.

He said: “The command received a report that the members of the vigilante groups were having their meeting when unknown gunmen came from nowhere and started shooting sporadically into the air and killed two members of the groups on the spot.”
