Major-General Chris Olukolade has bowed out of office as the Director of Defence Information and Colonel Rabe Abubakar has replaced him in acting capacity.
Abubakar in his maiden press briefing after taking over from Olukolade on Monday, said he would ensure robust, proactive information management.
He said: “Being aware of our security challenges and the need to tackle it, there is need for synergy especially in the articulation of information management.
“You know that terrorists thrive on information and hence there is also the need to bring a counter communication and information strategy.
“You are aware that they are now in disarray and they don’t have central command because of what we are doing in the North East. We will pursue them and take them down.’’
The new defence spokesman assured journalists that he will be “proactive and responsive” in his relationship with them and also adopt a “positive and robust” strategy in media and civil-military relations.
Abubakar expressed confidence in the ability of the Nigerian armed forces to end the Boko Haram insurgency insurgency in the country.
