Osun State Governor,Mr Rauf Aregbesola,has approved the appointment of Mr Adeyeye Ogunwusi as the new Ooni of Ife to succeed the late Ooni, Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse 11, who died about three months ago in a London hospital.
A statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, obtained by the Street Journal in the early hours of Monday, said Ogunwusi’s choice followed the completion of due process by the kingmakers and the communication of their decision to government.
It said Ogunwusi, 40, was chosen from 21 candidates presented to the state government for the Ooni stool from the Giesi Ruling House in the ancient kingdom, and is a successful real estate entrepreneur and Managing Director of Howard Roark Gardens Limited.
The new Ooni attended The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting before going on to obtain his Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria after which he went into real estate business.
He is also anon-Executive Director of Imperial Homes Mortgage Bank Ltd,a subsidiary of GTBank Plc.
The Street Journal reports that Ile-Ife is the ancestral home of the Yoruba, Nigeria’s second largest ethnic group,renowned for their education, enterpreneurship and rich culture.
