Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, on Thursday banned the Students Union Government, SUG, of the school forthwith.
A statement issued by Mr. D.A Awoyemi, the institution’s registrar, said the management’s decision was informed by the plan by some students to cause trouble in the institution.
The statement reads:
“The activities of the union is hereby suspended till further notice.
“It has come to our notice that some students are yet to go home, a refusal to comply with these directives shall be regarded as violation of the university rules and regulation in general.”
The Street Journal recalls that the school authorities had earlier directed all students to proceed on a mid-semester break following a protest by the students over alleged infrastructural decay on campus.
The union leadership had, however, rejected the decision and threatened a show down with management.
