The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned Ali Abdullahi, a personal assistant to the chairman of the Code of conduct Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar, for allegedly collecting the sum of N1.8 million bribe on behalf of his Principal.

The accused was arraigned on Thursday before Justice Chizoba Orji of the FCT High Court on a two-count charge bordering on alleged bribery and falsehood.

The Street Journal recalls that the accused is standing trial for allegedly providing false information to the EFCC during the commission’s investigation of a case of false asset declaration by Rashhed Owolabi a former official of the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS.

According to the first count of the charge, Mr. Abdullahi told the EFCC that N1.8 million collected from Owolabi was meant to assist his (Mr. Abdullahi’s) father’s medication.

In his submission before the court, Owolabi said he paid the N1.8 million bribe to the tribunal chairman through a Zenith Bank account number: ‎1002849471, belonging to Abdullahi, after Umar demanded N10 million to influence his case before the tribunal.
