The Director General of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, (NBC), Emeka Mba has been freed by Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
He was said to have been freed on Tuesday morning.
It will be recalled that Mba was arrested on Monday last week morning in Abuja. He had since been taken into custody at the EFCC’s headquarters until he was released in the early hours of today.
Last week, some detectives stormed the headquarters of the NBC, ransacking computers and files in the Finance and Account unit. During the operation, some key Accounts staff where taken away.
EFCC had beamed its light on NBC due to a petition bothering an alleged N15 billion fraud under his watch.
Compentent sources within EFCC said operatives had been investigating the NBC in the past one month.
Sources said the arrested officials made confessional statements to the EFCC implicating Mba and some top officials of the NBC.
A top official of the anti-graft agency had said: “Yes, he (Mba) is with us. We are investigating massive diversion of public funds and we are making progress. Mba definitely has questions to answer.”
However, MBA was quoted as having said people were after him because of his principle stance against any form of corruption. He was said to have very linking with any fraud, adding they want to rubbish his integrity he has built over the years.
“I will leave (resign), I think that is what they are after. I stepped on toes in the discharge of my duty, that is why they want me out, yes, I will leave”, he quoted as having said.
