Breaking: Early Morning Fire Razes Popular Singa Mkt, Kano


It was sorrow, cry and wailing Thursday morning as early morning Fire scotched through the popular Singa Market in Kano, in the process destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The fire, which started between 3 and 4 am was said to razed down an unspecified number of shops.
The State director of the fire service, Alhaji Balarabe Kabara confirmed the fire outbreak. Kabara said, “We are yet to ascertain the actual number of shops destroyed as we are still battling to put out the inferno.
“We cannot give you the number of shops affected but the fire had destroyed many shops”.
However, an eyewitness who identified himself as Aminu Inuwa said the fire started around 4am, and a particular structutre containing over 200 shops were completely affected.
Aminu said that the fire had also razed a number of ware houses of food stuff and essential commodities located within the vicinity of market.
Up till the time of filing in this report, men of the fire service have been battling with the fire in their efforts to put it out.
Security was also beefed up around the market to stop thieves from looting properties of the affected traders.
Police, civil defense and vigilante personnel were deployed to the market.
