A 12 year-old boy, Michael Ogbemudia, is currently battling for survival, following the head injury he sustained from machete cuts inflicted on him by his 10-year-old brother.
Michael who is currently lying critically ill at Benin Central, was allegedly attacked with a machete by his younger brother who was fighting with another boy.
The incident occurred last week Wednesday at their school, Ehonudin Primary School, Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo state.
Father of the boys, Paul Ogbemudia, narrated how the incident occurred to journalist on Saturday, at the hospital, when a governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress, Godwin Obaseki, visited the hospital as part of the Easter celebration.
He said Michael was attacked by his brother when he attempted to stop him from fighting with another boy, adding that the younger brother claimed that Michael joined others to fight him which was why he used the machete on him.
Michael’s condition is however worsened by the inability of their father to raise enough money to carry out a brain scan to enable doctors treat him.
Succour however came his way Obaseki, who took pity on his plight and offered to pay for the medical bills including the brain scan.
Obaseki also paid the medical bills of other patients, including Ahmedu Yusufu, who doctors said his bones are eating away.
He explained that the gesture was part of his activities to mark this year’s Easter celebration.
Over 25 patients benefited from the milk of human kindness of the governorship aspirant who paid over N1 million to settle their medical bills.
Many of the patients that benefited from the goodwill were those that have been treated and discharged but were held back at the hospital because they could not pay their medical bills.
