Budget Passage: We’re Still Talking, says FEC



After the conclusion of its Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, the Federal Government said the Executive arm of government was still talking with the Legislature on the 2016 Budget.

Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma declared that there is no conclusion yet on the 2016 national budget.

Udoma said this while addressing State House correspondents of the outcome of the meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Asked to provide an insight into the state of the budget, after a four-hour Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, the Minister said talks were still going on.

“On 2016 budget, we are still talking,” the Minister simply said.

Udoma also said the FEC approved a calendar for the 2017 Budget with a view to ensuring that the document gets to the National Assembly before the end of the year.

Thee Minister also stated that the council approved a memo on budget monitoring and evaluation mechanism.

According to him, the government intends to ensure that the 2017 budget proposal is presented to the National Assembly on time so that it can be passed this year.
