An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ikole Ekiti, Thursday, sentenced two men to death by hanging.
The two men, Segun Adeyemo and Gboye Babaniwura, are to pay for killing two men, Yeti Abubakar and Sikiru Ahmadu at the premises of the police station in Iluomoba Ekiti on September 13, 2011.
Justice Abiodun Adesodun found the accused persons guilty, holding that the prosecution has proved the case of murder preferred against them beyond reasonable doubt.
“I hereby sentence you, the first accused person, Segun Adeyemo and the second accused person, Gboye Babaniwura, to death by hanging until life goes out of you. May the Lord have mercy on your souls,” Justice Adesodun ruled.
The convicts were said to have attacked the deceased persons with dangerous weapons at Iluomoba Ekiti in Gbonyin Local Government Area of the state.
State counsel, Femi Onipede, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence at Iluomoba Ekiti in Gbonyin local government area of the state.
Onipede revealed that on the said date, the accused persons murdered the victims by hitting them with axe on their foreheads, an offence which contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 30 Vol. II Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria as applicable in Ekiti State.
The trial Judge held that such offence was criminal in nature as the evidence before the court had proved that the death of the people was masterminded by the convicts.
The defence counsel, Bode Kowe, during the trial, called three witnesses to prove the innocence of the convicts.
But Justice Adesodun held that they were guilty as charged and sentenced them to death by hanging.
