The Nigeria Police have warned members of the militant group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) not to dare their planned declaration of Niger Delta Republic unless they want to face treasonable felony.
The Police said it was high time the group stopped provocative statements, stating security agencies in the country were battle ready for the group if it dared the threat of ceding from the country.
The NDA said Thursday that if President Muhammadu Buhari Led government failed to carry out restructuring of the country it would declare Niger Delta Republic by October 1.
Reacting to the threat in Abuja, Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Donald Awunah, said the security agencies would not allow any action that might lead to a breakdown of law and order in any part of the country.
Awunah advised the militant group against daring the might of the Federal Government, describing their reported plan to declare a Niger Delta republic as provocative.
He urged the militants to channel their grievances through legal means, insisting that the Police and other security agencies would not condone any act of lawlessness in the region.
He said, “I believe they (militants) know that it is a treasonable felony to declare a republic.
“The police and other security agencies will not allow any treasonable action to be perpetrated in any part of the country.
“They have been warned,” he added.
