Mass Wedding Excites Kano Indigenes as 4,395 Couples Register


There is excitement in the air as another mass wedding is in the offing in Kano State.
This is as no fewer than 4,395 couples are said to have registered with Kano state Hisba Board so far for the programme.
The mass wedding, which is being sponsored by the government, will afford couples, who have been unable to carry out marital rites, tie the marriage knot during the ceremony.
More than 3,000 couples registered in Hisba offices across 41 local government areas, after registration opened on August 8.
A further 1,278 couples registered at the Hisba Headquarters in Kano city.
The numbers could rise when three remaining local governments send in their prospective couples.
Dr Abba Sufi, the Director-General of the Hisba Board, said, “The government is committed to the programme hence its decision to continue with the programme.
“The registration is still open to all interested persons as the exercise is still ongoing,” Sufi said.
