The Comptroller of Gombe State Central Prison, Adamu Mohammed Abba, has said a total of 15 Inmates, including a woman and 14 others, are currently waiting to be hanged in the state.
He disclised this when he received the state Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who was on a visit to the state’s Central Prison on Monday.
He said the inmates are among the 1076 in the facility majority of who are awaiting trial.
The state Comptroller of Prison Services, Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu who appealed to the Governor to improve medical services to the inmate, also called on Governor to set up skill acquisition programmes to engage the inmates so as to help in rehabilitating them into normal life after their jail term.
He said the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has approved a study centre at the prison and waved all fees and charges for qualified inmates who have interest to further their education.
In his response, Governor Dankwambo expressed concern over the number of youth inmates in the facility. He promised to ensure speedy trial for those on awaiting trial to make sure that justice is done to them.
