Fresh Panel to Hear Ondo PDP Appeals Constituted

A new panel to hear appeals arising from Ondo Peoples Democratic Party governorship primaries has been constituted.
The new panel followed the withdrawal of the former headed by Justice Jumai Hannatu Sankey, Tuesday.
It was gathered that the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, constituted the fresh panel, Wednesday.
‎The new panel made up of three members is said to be headed by Justice Ibrahim Salauwa of the Calabar Division of the Appeal Court.
It is not yet clear when the panel will start sitting to continue with the several appeals related to Ondo PDP.
One of the appeals before the Special panel seeks to authenticate the governorship candidate of the party between Eyitayo Jegede of Ahmed Makarfi led National Caretaker Committee and Ibrahim Jimoh, who emerged as candidate of the National Chairman, Ali Modu-Sheriff led faction in the November 26 governorship election in Ondo.
Another appeal the panel will sit on is the motion on notice filed by Jegede seeking to be joined as applicant to appeal the judgment of an Abuja Federal High Court of October 14, 2016, which recognised Jimoh as the authentic PDP candidate in the November 26 governorship election in the state.
Justice Sankey and two other members of the panel had washed their hands off the cases involving Ondo PDP, Tuesday, following a petition by the factional Chairman of the party in the state and a respondent in the appeals, Prince Biyi Poroye, alleging financial inducement of members of the panel, especially Sankey, whom he said was sick for five years, therefore needed financial rehabilitation.
Poroye also alleged in his petition, which the President, Court of Appeal, President Muhammadu Buhari and National Judicial Council were copied, that Ondo State Governor Segun Mimiko boasted to have invested in Sankey the sum of N250m.
In standing down from the panel, Sankey said it was only fair for the sake of justice and fair play to hand over the casefile to the President of Appeal Court for reassignment.
