Etsako Fed Constituency By-election: I’ve Not Stepped Down for Anybody- Agbonmhere

One of the aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the Etsako Federal Constituency by-election in Edo State, Blessing Agbonmhere, said he has not stepped down for any other aspirant just as he said he was confident of victory at the party’s primaries holding on Saturday.
Agbonmhere told journalists in Benin on Friday that the rumour making the rounds that he has stepped down for his co-contestant was mischievous.
He said he never stepped down for his closest rival, Johnson Oghuma, or any other aspirant.
“APC is democracy and we can’t practice what we fought against. Party officials are coming from Abuja to monitor the primary, so our party had not zeroed down on any candidate. I have got the assurance of former Governor, Adams Oshiomole, Governor Obaseki and other party leaders that there would be primary for the by-election,” he said.
He stressed that the issue of stepping has never arisen because “APC has no anointed candidate for the primary, hence the issue of stepping down for anybody does not even arise in the first place.”
“There would be primary for the by-election into the Etsako Federal constituency so I want the people to know that I am contesting the primary. I am in the race because I was part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s struggle for change,” he said.
The aspirant said he is contesting the election, not for himself, but to empower the people of Etsako and make national opportunities accessible to them, adding that Etsako needs a viable and profitable representation.
“Etsako people have seen quality representation in me. I am more qualified because of my youthfulness and I believe that the development of Etsako rest on the shoulder of the younger generation. We need human with capacity and ability which I possess,” he disclosed.
While noting that delegates and leaders of party in the area had seen him as a material to be sent to National Assembly to represent them, Agbonmhere said people are spreading the rumour thinking it would give them advantage.
He however called on the delegates and party leaders to support him in his determination to bring development to Etsako Federal Constituency.
