Three Arrested over Kidnap, Murder of Kogi Lecturer

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and killing of a lecturer of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Ms Christiana Agbulu.
Kogi State Police Command confirmed the arrest.
The Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, who disclosed this Wednesday in Lokoja, said the suspects were arrested in their hideout, Tuesday.
Aya, who revealed that the handset of the murdered lecturer was found with the suspects, said the suspects are assisting the police and would soon be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
The female lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi, Christie Agbulu, kidnapped in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, on November 26, 2016 was found dead on Tuesday.
Acting chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi chapter, Dr Bemgba Anjembe, said the corpse which was found in a decomposing state by security operatives had been handed over to the family for burial.
Anjembe prayed God to grant the family and university community fortitude to bear the loss.
The lecturer was kidnapped as soon as she arrived in Kogi state and the abductors used her phone to demand a ransom of N150, 000.
ASUU had in December expressed worry over the fate of its colleague and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the police to ensure her release.
Anjembe, who spoke then through Secretary of the union, Ishaq Eneji, stated that the union was dissatisfied that security agencies were yet to rescue Ms. Agbulu.
It was gathered that the kidnappers had demanded that the N150,000 ransom to be paid into the victim’s account immediately after her abduction.
The gang leader was identified while trying to use the victim’s ATM card to make withdrawal. It was further revealed that the lecturer was raped before she was killed.
