Ondo State Police Command has recorded successes in arresting gunmen who killed a Baptist Church pastor, while freeing four passengers who were kidnapped on Monday.
The Public Relations Officer of Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, said on Wednesday that two persons have been arrested in connection with the killing of Pastor Deji Joshua, in Okitipupa, the headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Pastor Joshua was killed by gunmen on Monday night, while his motorcycle was taken away by the assailants.
Joseph, who declined to disclose the identities of the suspects due to security reasons, explained that the suspects were already in Police custody. He added that the Police had also recovered the stolen motorcycle.
“We have arrested two of them (suspects), but we can’t disclose their names now for security reason.
“We are going after the others and we will get them,” the PPRO assured.
Meanwhile, the four persons that were kidnapped on Monday by some unknown gunmen on Ikare-Owo Expressway have regained their freedom.
They were kidnapped on Oba/Ose area of Ondo State while travelling in a commercial vehicle to Akure from Ikare, the headquarters of the Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
One of the occupants of the vehicle was shot dead, while the others were abducted by the hoodlums.
Joseph said the abducted persons were released following the efforts of the men of the command.
He said, “On getting the information, our men swung into action and when we closed in on the kidnappers, they had no choice but to release the victims.”
The PPRO, however, noted that the command had not made any arrest relating to the incident.
