Truck Crushes 6 to Death in Kogi


Six people, including a student of Kogi State Polytechnic, have been reported killed in an accident involving an articulated truck at Nataco junction, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway on Wednesday morning.
Others Killed in the accident included three pupils of a secondary school.
Students of the Polytechnic while protesting the death of their colleague in the accident were said to have gone on rampage.
They destroyed a traffic light and the GYB billboard mounted at the road intersection.
A detachment of policemen that came to the scene were forced to make a retreat, having exhausted the teargas canisters they brought to the scene.
The cement-carrying truck reportedly ran into a tricycle (Keke NAPEP), killing the student and others, including the three school pupils.
Eyewitnesses said the driver of the truck which was coming from Obajana and heading northwards, lost control around the Polytechnic gate and rammed into the victims.
A Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official confirmed the development, saying situation at the scene of the accident was still “tense.”
