The crisis rocking the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Friday turned violent as the opposing groups went for each other’s throat at the State Secretariat of the party in Asaba, the State capital, making the police seal up the Secretariat.
It was gathered that the police stopped the Prophet Jones Erue-led executive from gaining access to the secretariat to inaugurate its local government executive.
While Chief Cyril Ogodo executive was sworn in by the immediate past National Chairman of the Party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, along 32 other state chairmen of the party on June 4th, Prophet Jones Erue was sworn in by the National Chairman of the Party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on July 16th.
The Olorogun O’Tega Emerhor-led faction and that of Chief Great Ogboru have been in a supremacy battle.
The party has been engulfed in crisis since after the ward, local government and state congresses with the two tendencies claiming authenticity.
According to a dependable source, the State Police Command mobilised its men on Friday when trouble escalated to seal up the secretariat to forestall the breakdown of law and order.
A source close to the police leadership in the state confirmed the development, adding that the police commissioner has slated a meeting with the two warring groups.
