Court Clears Ladoja of Corruption Charges

A Federal High Court, Lagos, on Friday discharged and acquitted former Oyo State Gov. Rasheed Ladoja of corruption charges.
The ruling was delivered by Justice Mohammed Idris.
Ladoja faced N4.7bn fraud charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The Judge said Ladoja was cleared because the case against him was “too low on credible evidence”
Ladoja was also accused of removing 600,000 pounds from the state coffers in 2007 and sent to his daughter, Bimpe, in London.
In addition, the ex-governor was accused of converting N42m belonging to the state for his personal use and subsequently used same to purchase an armored Land Cruiser.
The EFCC added that Ladoja converted N728m and N77m at different times in 2007 for his personal use and transferred same to Bistrum Investments for the purchase of a property in Ibadan.
Ladoja became Governor of Oyo State on May 29, 2003 as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He was impeached in January 2006, but reinstated in December 2006. Ladoja’s term ended in 2007.
