The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has warned Nigerians on the sales of COVID-19 diagnostic test kits in black markets.
Director General of the center, Chikwe Ihekweazu revealed this Thursday while speaking at the presidential task force briefing on COVID-19 in the country.
Black markets which are known for exchanging transactions with no or little respect for established rule, makes the sales of the test kits harmful.
Ihekweazu warned those who are desperate for test to be careful as their lives might be at stake.
He further shared his fears on companies who are desperate to resume might seek these test kits in the black market to test their employees.
“It is important that as we open our industries, we really think about the measures that we advise everyone to carry out and leave testing for the purpose for which it is there,
“There is a growing black market on rapid diagnostics test kits in Nigeria, we have to be careful in what we buy, how we use it and how we interpret the results that they provide.” He said.
On test conducted so far in Nigeria, Osagie Ehanire, minister of health, disclosed that Nigeria has conducted 49,966 COVID-19 test.
