Anguished Nigerians have reacted to the sad report of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a University of Benin student who was reportedly raped and brutally attacked afterwards, inside a church in Benue state.
The sad incident was reported to have happened on May 27, inside a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) near Ikpoba Hill in Benin.
Omozuwa is a 100-level microbiology student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in Edo.
She was reported to have gone to the church to read in preparation for resumption of school after spending months at home due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Omozuwa met her sad fate while she was reading. She was said to have been attacked, raped, then her head was smashed with a fire extinguisher which left her unconscious.
She was rushed to an intensive care unit of a hospital located at Omozuwa where she eventually died.
Her unfortunate incident is following the rape of Jennifer, a 18-year-old girl, was allegedly gang raped by five boys reported to be her friends in Kaduna state.
Nigerians have immediately reacted with outraged, demanding justice for Omozuwa, Jennifer and other girls who have been raped and killed.
These have birthed the hashtag #JusticeForUwa, #JusticeForJennifer on social media, used by lots of public figures and angry Nigerians to demand justice.
