BREAKING: Obaseki Emerges as PDP Candidate for Edo Governorship Elections

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has emerged as PDP governorship candidate.

News has it that all aspirants stepped down few minutes to commencement of the party Governorship Primaries.

Obaseki emerged the PDP governorship candidate for Edo 2020 after his only rival in the PDP primary election, Ken Imasuagbon, stepped down for the Edo Governor to return unopposed.

It was learned that Imasuagbon, who had previously vowed not to step down for Obaseki prior to the primary election, stepped down few minutes to the commencement of the party Governorship Primaries for the governorship election slated for September.

A total of 2,229 delegates were expected to decide who emerges as the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Edo State governorship election, slated to hold on September 19, 2020.

This was disclosed in Abuja on Wednesday by Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP National Publicity Secretary.

He said the party followed due process in line with its time-tested procedures of electing eligible delegates, who had the responsibility of electing the most suitable candidate among the array of eligible aspirants seeking to fly the party’s flag in the governorship election.

Ologbondiyan also said, “All sensitive and non-sensitive materials have been dispatched to the state.

The election will be carried out in strict compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines. Members of the Governorship Primary Election Committee had arrived Benin for the exercise.”

 

Four persons initially obtained the expression of interest and nomination forms and were screened and cleared to contest.

Godwin Obaseki and other aspirants; Gideon Ikhine, Ogbeide-Ihama and Kenneth Imasuagbon.

Two of the aspirants were earlier reported to have stepped down for Obaseki.
