President Buhari Sister Ill, Flown Abroad For Medical Attention

These are obviously not the best of times for Nigeria’s President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari. He has lots of things to worry about; in his immediate environment and by extension, the country as a whole.
Ravaging bandits have deemphasised the value of human life as they continue terrorising Katsina, President Buhari’s home state and the entire Northern part of Nigeria.
The recent shooting incident in the Presidential Villa is also another source of worry; not just because it happened in the Number One citizen’s residence but it has resulted in the formal withdrawal of his wife’s security details. The power tussle within the leadership of his party, All Progressives Congress, (APC) too is part of the crisis Mr. President has to manage.
While President Buhari continues in his efforts to surmount those challenges, his eldest sister, Hajia Rakiyat Buhari reportedly took ill last week.
Though it is not uncommon with people of her age as she is over 85, findings revealed that she complained of leg pain which was due to Arthritis, a common illness among the elderly.
When the pain, however, became unbearable, President Buhari directed that she should be flowing to Egypt to see her personal physician.

She left Nigeria aboard a Presidential Jet last week and flew directly to Cairo. It was there her doctor advised her to undergo a minor surgery to forestall the recurrence of the ailment. She has been in Egypt receiving treatment since then.
Meanwhile, family and friends of Ibadan born flamboyant politician and current Aare of Ibadanland, Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi are praying fervently for the quick recovery of their breadwinner who reportedly underwent a surgery last Wednesday and is yet to come out of it.
His supporters claim he is showing signs of early recovery and may be out of intensive care unit by next week.
Ajimobi succeeded Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala of the People’s Democratic Party in office and ruled Oyo State for eight years. His tenure was controversial as he took many undemocratic decisions as Governor. The Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso was closed for nearly three years during his tenure.
His response when embittered ‘Ladokites’ protested the closure of their institution almost became a public relations disaster. The Governor, in an attempt to demand respect from the angry students proudly referred to himself as a “Consituted Authority” that should be shown some respect.
Sending bulldozers to level the Ibadan popular musician, Evangelist Yinka Ayefele’s Music House was another unpopular decision he took. This action elicited criticisms at home and abroad. Governor Ajimobi later retraced his steps and promised to rebuild it for the musician.
The last straw that probably broke the back of his political camel was his introduction of the unpopular elevation of Ibadan High Chiefs to the position of Obas. Unknown to him, an average of Ibadan person adores the Olubadan and holds the traditional stool in a very high esteem. Ibadan indigenes fought him both in the court of law and on the ballot papers.
He contested the Senatorial election and annointed a governorship candidate for his party. Both resulted in woeful losses.

How Ajimobi Emerged as APC Southwest Deputy National Chairman
When former governor of Ekiti State and immediate past Deputy National Chairman Southwest of All Progressives Congress, Otunba Niyi Adebayo was appointed as a Minister by President Buhari, a replacement had to be sought in accordance with the constitution of the party (brought in from Action Congress of Nigeria before it was merged with other parties to form APC) that the post of Deputy National Chairman, South West must be occupied by an Ex governor.
The agreement was written by the Muiz Banire led committee and it is still in operation till date.
By the time Ex-Governor Niyi Adebayo became Minister, and Engineer Segun Oni, another former Governor of Ekiti Ekiti had left the party, Senator Ibikunle Amosun had won his senatorial ticket, the only former governor who was not occupied then was Senator Isiaq Ajimobi who lost his bid to return to the Senate after an eight-year tenure as Governor.
He was subsequently appointed as Deputy National Chairman South West.
Last week, when the court affirmed the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomole, a faction of All Progressives Congress National Working Committee appointed him as their Acting Chairman, a decision which is now countered by another faction of the National Working Committe of the same party.
In all, Senator Ajimobi was about six months away from his 71st birthday before he fell sick.
Nigerians wish him quick recovery.
