16,697,639kg drugs destroyed in Plateau

The Plateau State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)  has seized and destroyed 16,697,639kg of hard drugs and other psychotropic substances from raids carried out by its operatives between 2016 to 2019 in the state.

Governor Simon Lalong witnessed the public burning exercise on Tuesday.

Chair of the agency Col. Muhammad Abdallah Rtd said 167,436.6868kg of hard drugs, including today’s figure, have been destroyed since January this year.

Col. Abdallah said drugs  destroyed were cannabis sativa, cocaine and other psychotropic substances, adding that abuse of cough syrup with codeine, and Tramadol is pervasive in the state.

“Let me seize this opportunity to assure the general public that NDLEA is on top of the challenge posed by trafficking and abuse of these  pharmaceutical drugs,” Abdallah said.

“We need the cooperation of Government and the whole society, if we mist pull down this drug scourge ravaging our communities.
