Angry youths, today, attacked the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters located at the Eleyele area of Ibadan, staging a protest over the escape of the prime suspect involved in the serial killings in the Akinyele Local Government Area, Sunday Shodipe.
According to reports, the youths stormed the police headquarters where the Commissioner of Police, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, attended to them, assuring them that the prime suspect will be re-arrested.
Some of the protesters who became unruly, attacked the headquarters with stones and other missiles, however, the police swiftly swung into action to prevent further damage to the facility.
Olugbenga Fadeyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, told newsmen that some students protested.
According to him:
“The CP and other senior police officers attended to them and answered all their questions.
“You know students now, some of them got out of control but we were able to handle the situation professionally. They have gone back.”
While being paraded on July 17 by the police, Shodipe confessed to have killed some of the victims in the area.
However, he escaped from the police custody on August 11.
This recent development comes after a non-partisan grassroots awareness forum, Peoples’ Awareness Initiative, PAI, announced a stay at home order for residents of Akinyele local government area on the 1st of September if the police fail to re-arrest Sunday Shodipe on or before the 31st of August.
