Fire guts block in Ooni’s palace

FIRE yesterday razed the administrative building at Ooni of Ife’s palace and destroyed property. It started 1.14 pm and lasted 23 minutes.

Sources said officials of the fire service arrived about six minutes after they were called.

Administrative Officer Fatai Aremu said: “Our men at Ile-Ife fire station were called about 1.20pm and they put off the fire… caused by power surge…’’

Director of Media and Public Affairs at the palace Moses Olafare said: “A minor fire outbreak, involving a tiny part of one of the administrative buildings within the palace happened about 1.15 pm today (yesterday).

“The fire, which lasted about 20 minutes, was put out by people in the palace, led by the Ooni’s Chief Security, Kolawole Emmanuel. They were later joined by men of the fire services from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and OAUTH.

“There were no causalities.”
