Oyo Deputy Gov, firm partner youths on cassava cultivation

Oyo Deputy Governor Engr. Raufu Olaniyan and Niji Farm Ilero are partnering with Oke Ogun youths on cultivation of 250-acre cassava plantation at Olofin village in Odo Ogun, Iseyin area of Oyo State.

According to Coordinator of Oke Ogun Green Revolution, Bola Olalere, the plantation is the first phase of a scheme aimed at empowering about 500 youths interested in agricbusiness from all ten local governments of Oke Ogun.

Olalere, in a statement, said the Deputy Governor donated the 250 acres and funded clearing of the land.

Messers Niji farm, on the other hand, is providing all the inputs, including tractorisation, cassava stems and herbicides, for the farm free of charge and buying back the cassava tubers at an agreed off-takers price on harvest.

It is also providing extension services for the farm, which will be allocated at five acres per participants.

Oke Ogun Green Revolution is an initiative of Oke-Ogun Youths Association, aimed at encouraging young people to engage in profitable and commercial agriculture by creating a platform that will make the work easier and interesting to them.
