Africa: Out of 229,896 Active Covid-19 Cases on Continent, 1,497 are Critical


As of September 10, the confirmed cases of COVID-19 from 55 African countries have reached 1,330,522. Reported deaths in Africa have reached 32,124, and recoveries 1,068,500. 229,896 cases are active of which 1,497 are considered critical.

South Africa has the most reported cases – 644,438, with deaths numbering 15,265. Other most-affected countries include Egypt (100,557 cases), Morocco (79,767), Ethiopia (62,578), Nigeria (55,829) and Algeria (47,488).

The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well national and regional public health departments.
