Gunmen, in the early hours of Thursday, attacked a police station in Gidan Madi, a town in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, The Street Journal has learnt.
The armed men killed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the station while some women were abducted during the attack.
According to a resident of the town, they were sleeping when they were awoken to the sound of sporadic shootings.
The Sokoto State Police Command has since confirmed the attack to the BBC Hausa, however, the spokesman, ASP Muhammad Sadiq, did not give further details, especially with regard to the fate of the DPO.
It was also gathered that the suspected bandits looted weapons, including an AK 47 rifle, from the police station.
“The gunmen launched a surprise attack on the policemen when they were sitting within the premises of the police station,” a resident of Gidan Madi told the BBC Hausa.
This new attack comes a few days after Tangaza was attacked where a bride and a nursing mother were abducted.
The activities of armed bandits have become a thing of concern in Nigeria, especially in the North West region. These hoodlums have continued to rain havoc in Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara State and Nigeria’s Middle Belt, killing, abducting and displacing residents.
