ANGERED by the incessant power outages, the Niger State House of Assembly has given the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) a three-week ultimatum to supply 24 hours power  to the state or face a shutdown of its three hydroelectric dams.

The lawmakers also ordered the DisCo to provide pre-paid meters and stop estimated billings in the state.

This was the decision of the committee set up to look into the problems of power supply in the state which was chaired by the member representing Bosso constituency, Malik Bosso.

Bosso stated this during a one-day stakeholders’ meeting at the House Assembly complex Minna.

He said the state should not suffer lack of electricity when it had three hydroelectric dams.

“Niger State host about three hydro-dams, and yet we cannot get 24-hour power supply. We will no longer tolerate this.”
