By Olushola Victor

If the story of COVID-19 in Lagos is being told years later, the name of Dr. Ngozi Ibe will be mentioned at some point.

After Lagos became the epicenter of the pandemic in March, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu rose to the occasion by outlining a wide-ranging containment strategy. There was fear that things could go out of hands or messy, especially with the alarming death rates recorded in more developed countries.

But with the help of doctors like Ibe, the Russian-trained medical doctor and Chief Executive Officer of NIMD Medical Services, Lagos government, so far, has been able to curtail the deadly virus.

All through the peak of COVID-19 in Lagos, Ibe’s NIMD was actively involved in offering Lagos communities assistance and support in form of rapid delivery of PPE attires among other medical materials, leveraging technology on a 24/7 basis.

Tomorrow, September 27, she will mark her birthday. Even though she decides to shun a big celebration, she should be celebrated for her selflessness in the fight against the pandemic.

Describing the motivation behind her gesture, Ibe said the passion to save lives came first.
